Hey everyone out there.  Sorry about the silence on the blog, but the traveling has kept me busy.  I had alot of fun in Barcelona at the NetCool User's Conference.  The plan was to present the NOC-SOC integration story, but made a last minute change to present the information I wrote a white paper about, Building a Security Framework in the Next Generation Networks.  Click the link for the preso I presented.  I also had the chance to present the main demo to everyone.  Thanks to everyone who came by.

Look forward to the standard stream of posts to resume shortly.

The Lazy Genius has been quiet this week.  I have been in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada training more consultants at a partner, ARC Business Solutions, on NeuSecure.  It went well, and I enjoyed my time in the great north.  The folks in Edmonton are real nice, similar to the mid-west in their demeanor.  The weather was absolutely perfect, and with the 17 hour days, I enjoyed several parks like the Elk Island National Park and the largest mall in the world, the West Edmonton Mall.  For the exception of working every day, it was like a vacation.  Right now, I am on my way to Barcelona, Spain for the NetCool User's Conference.  I will be giving a presentation on Security Framework in Next Generation Networks (NGN).  I am looking forward to meeting many of you that I have only spoken with on the phone.

I might find some time to a bit of blogging, but it will probably be another week before you see any new posts.

I am booked and ready to go to to Barcelona in June to speak at the Netcool User's Conference.  I am very excited to head to Spain, but equally excited to speak with my European counterparts about security.  I will be presenting some case studies and discussing the ways our customers have found success using NeuSecure.  I also will be learning much from the engineers and customers in Europe.  Looking forward to it!

I'm pleased to announce the inaugural meeting of the expanded Atlanta Tivoli User Group (ATUG) now including both IBM Tivoli and Micromuse Netcool customers and interested parties.  This is a technically focused special interest group that will focus on more specific topics related to the IBM Tivoli (including Micromuse Netcool) family of products.

The Atlanta Network and Systems Management TUG (ANSMTUG) is a broader vendor-neutral user group focused on the art of all things network, systems and application management, including the operations, business, people, process focus areas.  ANSMTUG will continue to have broad based meetings on a range of topics.

Well I can finally announce that I am no longer an Independent Consultant.  I am now a happy post-sales consultant for Guarded.Net, the maker of NeuSecure, easily the best SIM out on the market.  But WAIT, Guarded.Net is no more!  They were bought bought by Micromuse a few months ago.  But WAIT, Micromuse is no more!  Last Thursday, it was announced that IBM intendeds to buy Micromuse.  So I still will be doing security consulting, implementing NeuSecure at most of the best IT shops in the world.  Eventually NeuSecure will be integrated with Tivoli, which will be fun as well.  This blog will live on as I travel and hope to bring some interesting anecdotes.
View Article  Thanks to those who attended the Lecture at HTCIA
I had a great time today at the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) and thank all who came out.  As promised, I have uploaded the slides for your download (requires Acrobat 7), with the reference pages attached at the end.  For those of you who couldn't attend, this was a more technical and comprehensive talk than last time.  I went over not only the technical details of the Wi-Fi protocol, but also walk through demos on how to perform most Wi-Fi attacks being performed in the wild.  If anyone has any feedback or comments, please post your thoughts.  I will be doing this talk again soon and want to improve it, so I would love to hear from you.

With the pervasive adoption of wireless networking, organizations are facing greater risks from a wide variety of sources. Neighboring networks, rogue access points, personal devices and mis-configured infrastructure are now exploit vectors from which your corporate security can be compromised. And your existing firewalls and VPN security systems do not provide defense against these wireless threats. No longer is having a "No Wi-Fi" policy a guarantee that your organization has mitigated the risk associated with wireless LANs. If you have a wireless LAN, the security capabilities built into your wireless infrastructure may not provide enough protection.

Business managers, networking and security professionals are invited to meet with AirTight Networks as they provide a comprehensive view of the risks associated with Wireless LANs and discuss a best practices framework for protecting your business assets. Please join us to view AirTight Network's advanced Wireless Intrusion Prevention in action! Lunch will be promptly served at 11:30 AM.

Please email me to RSVP.  Spots are limited, so please respond soon!
